Student Threat Assessment Team

A Student Threat Assessment Team (STAT) is a multi agency program that is developed in response to a community based concerns for children who pose a threat to others in schools and the community at large. Participating agencies include local schools, Mental Health, Law Enforcement, Service to Children and families, and the Juvenile Department.

The STAT process is based on a protocol developed and agreed to by the participating organizations. The process consists of an initial screening by the referring organization or school and a series of gating and screening processes with prescribed and required steps to ensure appropriate referrals throughout the process. This screening process is conducted by trained professional who facilitate the movement of the referral either by the development of a plan at an early stage in the process or referral to a multi agency team that meets on a regular scheduled basis.

Parent involvement is highly encouraged in order to produce the most appropriate and effective response to the needs of the child. Cases are reviewed and plans are developed based on the individual needs and there are follow up reviews are scheduled. Generally there are no perfect resolutions and each plan reflects the unique circumstances of the child and the context of their circumstances.
