This workshop address the components and process for developing effective school based collaboration programs that are designed to serve children with social, emotional, and behavior disorders. The presentation outlines the elements of effective collaboration, the benefits, barrier's to making collaboration work, and how to overcome obstacles to collaboration. In addition there will be an overview of demonstrated effective models of collaboration with particular attention directed at one in detail. The focus model will be Youth Service Teams (YST) which is a regional, multiple agency, staffing process for students with multiple and severe needs. The YST's are staffed based on agency commitment to the process. The YST staffing addresses problems that are predominately community based and beyond the scope and sole responsibility of schools. The session will involve presentation and discussion and materials will be provided including a collaboration-planning guide.
